ree

the mason jars that serve as drinking glasses

the four plants that complete your collection all gathered at one window

the dust that builds on the mantle from when we were kids

the creak as you venture up the stairs.

your home is one I call my own, with its looming stature and siding that has transitioned from brown to green.

I'll forever love the memories we’ve created here.

always I’ll carry with me the nights spent laying with the dog next to the fire place,

the quiet days when I’d have the house to myself,

and the summer days when you wash your car and mow the lawn while I make macaroni inside.

It's a sorrowful moment to think those memories are behind us.

that this home will soon be filled with foot steps that aren’t our own.

but this house has much to give another family, and for that I have joy.

this home is a place that’ll be an oasis to many in the years to come.

the mason jars may be gone, plants moved, and mantle piece transferred elsewhere

but the creak of the stairs will stay.

the new green siding will last and

the memories we created will forever hold their place in this house.

thank you big green stature for being a place I can call home.
