an ode to marble Samantha Drake-FlamSep 2, 20241 min readthe cold water of the crystal river that traces the land of marbledogs slumped on couchlaugher in the dusk of the evening brisk mountain air that seeps into the cabindog licks and paw punches replacing alarms bear horns that warn as night arrives reading on the couch, in the hammock, on the porch hummingbirds that zoom and hover over their sugar water the alpine glow that lays upon white house and invites the mosquitoes to feastthe heat of the oven that spreads to the whole cabin homemade dinners that leave our bellies warm and full dog barks and human exclaims as another enters the cabin the opening and closing of shades that tells us what part of the day it is the timelessness of the world the hats, backpacks, and clothes that have lived here longer than all of us afternoon storms that shake the walls and water the earth the buzzing of the wasps that vibrate against the window wanting to leavethe cup and paper we use to bring them out dishes that pile up awaiting to be immersed in bubbles then dried the 3 buckets of ice cream that fill the freezer at all time cottonwood carried by the wind tangled in your hairhugged in by the mountains of the wild,we smile, cry, laugh, and love
